About the Boat and Captain

The new Free Spirit is ready to fish!. The hull is a Calvin Beal Jr. 34, a downeast lobster boat design with a 465 hp. Yanmar diesel that gives her a top speed of 26+ knots and a cruising speed of about 23 knots without the pounding of other hulls. This hull is seaworthy, seakindly, and a very stable platform to fish from. She is 34' in length with a beam of 13'. The cockpit is spacious, 12 x 13 feet so there is enough room for me to take 6 anglers in comfort with plenty of room to fish for everything from stripers to overnight tuna fishing. Six anglers can stand across the transom with plenty of elbow room. The wheelhouse and cabin have bunks for 6 and heat for those cool mornings and evenings plus plenty of ventilation for cooling on those hot days. There is seating for the entire party in the wheelhouse as well. The range is a phenomenal 350 miles that allows us to get to the fish wherever they may be. The Free Spirit is completely equipped with the latest Raymarine quality electronics including the new Raymarine DSM 300 patented color digital fishfinder, 2 brand new E-120 color chartplotter/ GPS, 2 Raymarine 215 VHF Radios, A Ray 152 single side band radio,, Raymarine 8001 auto pilot, and 72 mile color radar with a 6' array on a 12" display that will allow us to see even small targets and actually enables us to see birds on fish from up to a mile away! A satellite phone is also onboard for safety and communication from anywhere in the world. The boat is equipped with a complete marine head with a fresh water system. In addition, this year actual videos of your trip will be available for you at no charge. Everything is designed to make your day exciting, enjoyable and comfortable. The boat has a stable, solid, comfortable ride that will make everyone's day better and more enjoyable. Floods light the decks for overnight tuna chunking and the boat is equipped with outriggers, downriggers, and all the equipment needed to make your fishing trip a success. The captain has been fishing the New Jersey waters for 34 years and has been chartering since 1978, He has been honored by being chosen to be a member of Raymarine Electronics Pro Staff. In addition, he is a contributor to The Fisherman Magazine, and the Northeast Angler, and gives seminars in NJ and PA on the techniques and experiences of saltwater fishing. This Winter, He was honored to be chosen to be a speaker at the Saltwater Sportsman Magazine Fishing Seminar here in New Jersey as well as being a member of Suffix Line Pro-Staff, Quantum Fishing's Pro-Staff, Navionics Charts Pro- staff, and a member of the Cape May County Charter and Party Boat Association.
