Nice story Seaker,
From the pics they look like some big fish. Sometimes it's difficult to tell size from pictures but the marlin in that second shot looks like a real monster.
Good stuff

I love a good WAKE!
My highlight was taking my bride out for a little light tackle black drum fishing. I am real proud of my gal, she cast, hooked and fought the beast on her own.

Certainly not a great "batting average" on this trip but still, one of the more memorable trips...
My father in law was visting from up North. He lost his wife last year to cancer and it's been tough on him (to say the least). I wanted to get him out for some flounder maybe...just get him out fishing. He's a true diehard and we both enjoy getting out there together.
Called my bud Dave and he wants to go offshore. Reports for the past week have been grim (Summer doldrums). Most of my friends got skunked the day before...so he said, "so what? Let's GO!" Of course I'm in!!
So off we go. Three man crew on a sportfisher...my father in law knows zero about offshore so Dave is on the tower (with a couple baits), and I'm in the pit (with the rest of the spread). We said it would be worth the effort just to get Rog a nice fish...or two if we're lucky.
10 minutes into the troll, we land a 30 pound wahoo. SWEET. He is excited. I can't believe our good fortune. Shortly thereafter, I see a spreader bar get hit (saw the rod bow and come back). I jig it and see a bill. "Rog, crank that spreader in NOW". I drop back a flat line but nope, whitey wants the Express with a horse bally and Dave hooks it from the bridge. Same time, a Sailfish piles on the other flat...but is gone. Long rigger comes down, Dave trys to drop back but the fish is gone (first fish is still on his center rod on the bridge). Other long comes down, I drop back, miss, drop back and hook up. Dave's fish on the bridge pulls off...mine is peeling drag (another white) but it too pulls. Oh well, we had 4 or 5 fish come in and we hooked two...and again I cannot belive the luck.
Later, another Hoo cuts us off, then another. More later we find a massive weed bed. We nail two 20 pound gaffers off of it and Dave sees a HUGE Blue snooping around the spread but disappears. 15 minutes later a 300-400 pound class Blue anihilates the flat line (put an Illander/Horse on this after we saw the first blue cruising). This was the coolest thing I've ever seen...head/shoulders out then POW, reel screaming and the fish is going ape. I'm basically alone in the pit and this fish is going off. It peels away then does a near 180 and passes us and is running away from the boat (off the bow/quarter). Well, we had the fish tight for a while (on a 70W) and I could not do much with it. Mainline broke on the heavy grass the fish was going through but it was awesome.
Trolling back shallow we get another wahoo (20 pounds) and have another cut off the flat line via a "superman" bite.
We took Rog out for a bite (or two if lucky) and ended up hooking a couple whites, a nice blue, 2 for 5 on nice gaffers and 2 for 5 on wahoo bites. I rigged 4 dozen med's and 6 horses, gaffed, leadered, untangled shit, re-rigged bite off's...I thought I'd be sitting on my ass all day praying for ONE bite!!!
Every time Roger calls, he brings up the Blue. It's a day neither of us will forget.
Sorry, no pics...![]()
Tight lines,

Mine would be the Grand Slam, I never had one off Va Beach Sailfish have a short window around here.We had stud 74 lb Yellowfin that day also.
In retrospect 07 was a good year. Didn't get out as much as I'd like, but the highlights were many. Rode on the Pumpin' Hard and bloodied their cockpit with bluefins as a result of a pair of sixes (poker tourney), won some stuff in the local marlin tourney, Team Lil' Contender, (Anthony, ESANGLER, and Sushi Chef aka Eastern Shore Rednecks) picked up a World Championship in May, but probably the highlight was the Bayford Invitational Croaker Tourney.
Heavy stress here...the $25 entry got me a tee shirt and the opportunity to fish for Croakersaurus Rex, dabble at the pre fishing gathering and inbibe at the live band event that ended the event. We fished hard and picked up a prize or two for our efforts, but man, oh, man.......the combination of copious amounts of "fishing lube" , dock candy, and ect.... was the perfect compliement for a warm summer day.
But guess what...there are over thrity days left....the sea lice laden rockfish have just made their way up the bay to Crisfield....schoolies are under birds....28-36's are awaiting my Crippled Herring offering...Plus there's some hunting to be done....
I'm gonna need more time off....
