Dead Whiting------works good up here
Rigged Mackeral spreader bars.
Live Blues - the ones that wear pajamas are okay too.
This totally depends on what they are eating. I don't have one favorite lure or bait. The first thing to figure out is are they eating squid -if so how big, mackeral, sand eels, sardines, herring, rainfish, etc.
Trolling, most of the time I would have to say the 8.5" hollow squid bars in the rainbow or "Jerry Garcia" color are the best producers. It's close between the bars and the small hoos with Islander or Billy Bait hats for yellowfins and bluefin. Sometimes the longfin really like green machines and green machine chains.
Again my favorite bait depends on the situation. Many, many days the best bait for bluefin is a drone or clark spoon. It amazes me that people often don't put stuff like that down for tuna, especially when they are eating tinker mackeral.
Hands down scallop guts... or maybe a large salted clam if I'm having trouble keeping guts on the hook. For the past 8 years I've undoubtedly hooked more fish on guts then any other bait no question....
