Yellowfins to the left.....yellowfins to the right
Fished offshore on the small boat today, 25 contender.......had one fellow in the charter. Started out south of the big rock area, 40-70 fathoms, didn't take very long, 5 of the 6 rods went down, caught 4 of them. (25-35 lb. class) Set back out trolled for maybe 5 minutes, missed one more on the bite and then it happened..............as far as the eye could see, yellowfin tuna airing out everywhere, whether after flyers or bonita or sargasim minnows, didn't matter, if it had a tail and moved they went on it. Tried a few on the 20lb. spinning rod........it did ok. Wanted to try to get a shot on the fly, but my man said NO WAY!!!! We only put two rods out for the next three hours and continued to have all we could stand, we were releasing them after catching our SIX limitt in about an hour. The last few we did keep were in the 55-70 lb. range, one was 73.6, that was the only one we weighed. Pulled the normal colors, medium ballys, fluoro. leader, 8/0 mustad 7692 hook (SHARPENED!!!!!!!) and the water temp. was anywhere from 68-70 degrees, about a knot of down tide. Anyway great day on the water, what a sight to see...........something about them tuna, no matter how many times you see them jumping or busting, it NEVER GET'S OLD. Good fishing to all, Capt. Brian Harrington Owner/Operator Extreme Measures Charters and the Run-Off.
