I AM GOING TO AGREE WITH THE PAST POST.......I HAVE NOT MARKED SQUID AND BAIT LIKE I HAVE LAST WEEKEND IN 70 TO 125(ISH) FATHOMS........SQUID AND OTHER BAIT EVERYWHERE......THE ENTIRE OCEAN IS DEAD OFF OF OUR COAST AS FAR AS I CAN SEE......

A FEW WHITE AND SCATTERED BLUE MARLIN BUT AS FAR AS MAHI'S OR AHI - I WOULDN'T EVEN BOTHER GOING RIGHT NOW......AND UNTIL THE TRASHCANS AROUND THE MARINAS START TO FILL WITH CARCUSES AGAIN,......ITS TIME TO GET CAUGHT UP ON THE YARD WORK AND STRAIGHTEN UP THE SHED AND THE GARAGE.

BUT NO WORRIES,.....ITS THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST,.....IT WILL TURN AROUND HOPEFULLY AFTER ANOTHER COUPLE OF WEEKS......BEFORE YOU KNOW IT WE WILL HAVE A WEED LINE AND MULTIPLE HOOK-UPS AT THE SAME TIME.......STAY POSITIVE!

FLOUNDER FISHING ON THE OTHER HAND IS GOING OFF RIGHT NOW!

We saw lots of bait (squid, flying fish,....) and life (whales, turtles) in the Toms on Fri... but the two longfin that we did catch didn't have anything in them at all.

I hope the larger YFT show up soon...

I really don't think bait is the problem, last year there was tons squid, but no fish. I don't know what to think guys, but I'm worried because this is around the time the fish disappeared last year. I haven't caught a nice size yellowfin since July of last year.

I PERSONALLY HAVEN'T CAUGHT OR STUCK A YELLOWFIN TUNA IN 2009,....AND IT PISSES ME OFF. I JUST WROTE UP MY THOUGHTS ON THE MEATFISH OC CAPTAIN FORUM ON HERE JUST NOW. I PERSONALLY THINK THEY HAVE CHANGED THEIR PATTERN ALL TOGETHER. THERE REALLY WAS NO YFT FISHERY TO SPEAK OF THIS SPRING DOWN SOUTH AS WELL........I JUST DON'T GET IT. MAYBE A MIRACLE WILL HAPPEN.....

I MEAN USUALLY DURING THE TIME OF THE OC TUNA TOURNAMENT YOU CAN GET YOUR BFT AND THEN GO CATCH YFT FOR STRINGER WEIGHT,.....THAT WAS ALL BUT NONEXISTENT THIS YEAR.

IT'S FRUSTRATING TO SAY THE LEAST.......I HOPE THAT THE CROAKER POPULATION REMAINS THICK INTO THE FALL,.....FOR THE HEADBOAT CAPTAINS.....AT LEAST SOMEONE WILL BE CATCHING SOMETHING.

The nicer yellowfins have been scarcer but we have gotten some meat each trip. I am more concerned with the lack of a solid longfin bite. By this time of the year they show up for us NJ guys who like to troll once the YFT chunk is in full swing. I did not get them good last year and the reports are sparse.
