The next bite on a jig.
If you are going to be commuting from Jersey to come down and fish, I would recommend Hatteras. It will be a little closer than Morehead and you will have a 35 mile run to the fish. Somedays more, somedays less.

I'm curious about the timing of the yellowfin in NC as well. I have a buddy who brought his boat down and we've been trying to figure out when the best time would be to take a weekend and have a reasonable shot at some.

    Snakeeyes,
The Tuna fishing out of Oregan Inlet NC is good right now although the weather makes it difficult to get out this time of year. The warm water is normally about 30 to 35 nm out.The Inshore Rockfishing is normally red hot this month so you have some options. Plenty of places for dockage...Pirates Cove, Wanchese, Shallowbag bay. Good luck with your trip and decision.

you read my mind, i was just getting ready to ask this same ? since I am thinking of towing the boat up to Oregon Inlet to fish a few weekends. What size boat do you run? I run a 21 Wellcraft cc so I KNOW that I have to pick my days as well . Info on both MHC and Oregon Inlet would be appreciated

JAY, I AM THINKING OF TOWING MY 34' CC DOWN, AND LEAVING IT THERE FOR A FEW MONTHS, I'VE FOUND A PLACE TO STORE IT SO IF THE WEATHER IS FOUL, I COULD STAY NORTH AND NOT WORRY ABOUT THE BOAT DUE TO BEING ON THE TRAILER. MOST THINK IT WOULD BE A PAIN TO KEEP LOADING HOWEVER THE TRAILER IS SET UP PROPERLY AND CAN LOAD IN 2-3 MINUTES. THANKS TO ALL WITH INPUT...HOW ABOUT SOME OTHERS WITH LOCAL KNOWLEDGE, ANYONE CARE TO OR BE WILLING TO BUDDIE UP THRU THE LOCAL INLETS...NOT LOOKING FOR FISHING SPOTS JUST WANT TO KNOW THE LOCAL INLETS...

Snake I fish out of Hatteras if you are running out of there you can run with me anytime but I am just a recreational guy. But with both of those places you have plenty of charter boats and other rec boats you will have someone to navigate the inlet with 99% of the time.
