JayJay,
Anything that is blowing into the inlet will make that rough on an outgoing tide. And anything that bucks the current of the gulf stream can make the gulf stream rougher.

I guess it depends on where I am planning on fishing.
NE is nice on the way out and SE on the way home. LOL
Once your out there a NE coming home from offshore sucks the further SW you fish.
4-6 is usually where I draw the line. 3-5 is pretty much average for here in NC. Anything less is better of course.
The problem is when it switches when your out there for the worst. You just can't predict what happens sometimes
I remember a trip last year out on my boat. Flat slick calm on the way out at 35kts. Fishing through the morning and around noon the wind kicked up about 20kts out of the NE. We were down at the Swansboro Hole. Needless to say we trolled towards the beach for the next couple hours. We took a major ass woopin coming home. That was probably my worst wooping I have taken in my boat too. They were 4-6 and on top of each other hitting right on the Starboard side of the bow.

Jay,
Have never fished out of MHC.
OI is messy anytime there is any kind of East or North East wind especially with an outgoing tide. Tuna fishing is good now to the South.
I will def. keeps these posts saved to remember .Thanks guys.

it never fails when we head offshore dead intot he wind on the way out then the &$*$^# wind will switch and it's dead into the wind on the way home. Makes you appreciate those nice days even more on a small boat.
