We were scheduled to leave the dock at 2AM but we delayed our departure until the threat of thuderstorms was over and we received a report that the ocean had calmed.
We went to the Wilmington and on the advise of Chumstain found favorable conditions just where he told us.
We went three for three on the yellows and when we made our second pass we boated a longfin.
We then made our way up the east wall and because the seas for so calm we decided to rig up the new center rigger on the boat.
No sooner did we finish and put a green machine back out that we heard a splash and could see a billfish smack the bait.
Bird hooked him and the fight was on. He made three or four jumps while we cleared the rods and by this time the fish almost spooled our fifty.
We chased him down and Bird started to gain some on him. We bought the Worldcat 33TE just for this and angler and boat worked perfect together.
1 hour and 35 mins later we released the blue marlin.
It was quite a day. We also took 3 of the offshore prizes in the tournament. Thanks Schooner Island and Worldcat, we had a lot of fun at the dinner and pig roast afterward.
