I have had a similar experience. My mate was not rude but he also "sold" my friend on mounting a cuda. there were six of us on the charter and we were trolling all day and they were only able to produce two small blackfin. Later on we hooked up to "something big" and "this is a keeper your going to want to mount it". Turned out to be a big cuda but likewise my friend did not want it mounted but somehow we gaffed it and he got stuck with a huge bill to have it mounted. Seems like there are a lot of charter boats in Ft. Lauderdale who have WAY to many friends in the taxidermy business. Throwing jobs a friends way is one thing but the way it seems to me is like they are getting paid a lot extra for it. It ridiculous, if the customer doesn't want the fish then let it go! Don't force it onto the customer so you could make a couple extra bucks on the side.
There are also a lot of really good charters out of stuart, FL. Actually nice captains and mates looking to catch fish and have a good time with everyone on the boat. That goes double for the keys.
