    Wreckfish surprise!

While sharking the 30 line I had a whole mackeral bait bitten in half right below the surface while setting the bait. Hoping it was a big bluefish we tossed over a stingsilver and instantly hooked up what we figured was a nice chopper. It was digging pretty hard on the light tackle so we thought this was the nice money tourny bluefish we wanted. Ten minutes later I toss a 25lb. wreckfish over the rail! Ever heard of one eating off the surface? I think the mako magnet had a serious effect on bottom fish as we had a trigger hanging in the crate for hours.

Wow dman! That's amazing stuff. Wreckfish at 30 fathoms are special, but eating on the surface? Again wow!
    Any pictures?
I would guess that since you use a mako magnet you believe in it's effectiveness? Interesting question about the thing driving the bottom fish nuts.
Pretty work on the light tackle bruiser!

Did'nt get a pick of the wreckfish because it was our last day fishing and we where in a hurry to pack up and rollout but I've seen and caught them before it was definitely a wreckfish. Oh we where fishing out of IRI and caught him around Masseys. As for the magnet why else would he even be up there? Unless the chum helped bring him up but he was under the bow right where we keep the magnet and that trigger was about 2 inches away form the magnet for hours. I definitley believe the magnet works.

thanks for the comeback dman. I think I'm convinced! Anything that might get the bottom fish up off the bottom would be a remarkable development. Catching them on lighter tackle has always been very appealing to me, but not possible when they are holding tight on structure.
I just might try one of those magnets.
