    Wrapping Gaff Handle

Anybody got a link or instructions for how to wrap a gaff handle or other assorted metal tubes with cord/string/rope?

Like the spiral pattern a lot of folks use or even some more complex patterns

I had an inspiration...i wonder how it would work to use some of this shrink wrap they use on surf rods to go over the cord, cause that cord can be rough on the hands.

The shrink tube would be good over a foam grip.

The cord grips are really not that rough - especially if you have wiring gloves on - a little rough helps...

When I make my grips (http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/...aff-73777.html), I rough up the area I'm going to cover, then wrap the cord - as tight as possible, then I mix a special batch of rod finish and cover the whole grip.

The special recipe is 2 parts Resin, 2 Parts Hardener, 1 part Acetone. It makes a very runny mix that is easy to apply and soaks into the cord easily.

You could use a good marine varnish just as easily.
