Is that hook in the fish or on top?
The J hook would be in the fish just like if you were running a J hook rig but the hook cut off.The hoo would be wired down just like normal. The circle would be on top and the mono run through and up to the cut j hook eye and crimped. The circle would be kinda like a reverse Guac.

I used a similar rig. We had 2 hooks outside the fish on the bottom, and the islander in front... Got a cut off trolling and we nailed a tuna on it while we dropped the boats speed when we had another tuna on the line..
Appears a little complicated if you were to do them in volume. Still any improvement or innovation should be tried and tested. I came up wit about 30 useless ones so far. Though complicated there is the potential that it could work or better yet be "the rig".

It would be a little complicated but realy would only be used for billfish tourns I don't think you would need to worry about volume or speed.

One of my "J" rigs gets laughed at a lot... Looks ugly as sin but will deliver a perfect 7+ knot swimming hoo... Let it rock nd let us know how it preforms...

Fin - I personally would rethink that statement. No bash intended. But why wouldn't you fish with it at all times. That is the only way you will get better at hook setting with a new technique. I am sure our billfish numbers will be a bit lower this year but we will be pulling circles 100% of the time billfishing this year. Tournament or not. Just a thought.
I think we will all learn some things about rigging Circle hooks this year.
I'm actually surprised that some of the hook makers haven't offered some kind of contest for a new rig utilizing circle hooks that offers great repeatability, simplicity and great swimming baits like the classic J-hook pin rig...
