Worst Trolling Blunder or near death experience Offshore

This is my tackle blunder of a life time!

It is not a good idea to teach people to count line coming off and you are better off handing them a line counter or this is the end results

20 ' becomes 40' 100' becomes 200' if they dont understand lol my bad and lesson learned don't touch my rods

I will share the near death on later on

Glad I can share a smile or two

Good thing we were running and had a little time to spare....The sad part is I didn't cut one line and got it all undone and cleaned up and wed thru and threw out the kinked and bad line ...cause I'm good like that ....

I an the un knotter queen most say I just have patience of a saint

My worst rookie mistake was not being able to tell a churning pack of bluefish from tuna slashes at 50 yards. "Crap!! That is bluefish. Turn the boat and get away!! Damm it will take hours to untangle those bars!!!"

My splash identification skill got better that day.

On the run out I was the only one in the cockpit, rigging baits etc. Walked across the cockpit to get the hose and we hit a wave a little funny, my knees hit the side and my feet slipped out from under me. I was far enough forward tha I caught the ladder to the bridge in my right hand, my nose was just about in the water at that point. It was all I could do to stay in the cockpit, that was the worst feeling I have ever had. Now we always keep an eye on the man in the pit while running.

Near death for a crewmember on my ride a few years ago we had what appeared to be a extremely large Blue Marlin on a Long Rigger that after almost spooling an Avet 50 wide 25 lbs drag shook off the Lure only to seconds later decide to eat the Wayback on a Avet 50 TREX and start to spool another crewmember who was harnassed in I came back when he questioned how much drag was on and I said around 30lbs and said be careful to not go past strike as I raced to the helm to circle the boat around the fish to gain line back.Within seconds I heard something going on behind me as I turned the boat only to turn and see the crewmember practically stuck between the outboards while another crewmember had him luckily by the harnass keeping him from a deathswim. He Bumped the drag all the way up to somewhere between 80-116 lbs of drag I estimate in an effort to slow the fish. I am absolutely Sure he will NEVER do that again...

if they ever give ya a hard time .. just go to the back (inside corner on a turn..) and start letting out a daisy chain.. and walk away.. or look up after counting to 55 and ask if it is good..

Biggest Mistake, having a Bridge pole in 8 - 10 foot seas . Of course this rod got hit the most , couldn't fight the fish from there in the waves and lost 2 large fish during a tournament. Will never do that again.

Luckily no near deaths, a couple crew members at times that wish they were dead.

the one I remember most was a year we were fishing the Catalina Gold Cup marlin tourney.Very slow fishing so any fish could be worth a lot of money. Were on a fish,I go out on the step to leader the fish, standing next to my bait bag,I pulled on the leader, the fish turned toward the boat and stuck its bill through the bag, about 10in away from where my femeral arttery would be.Just less than a foot from being impailled, virtually no chance for help from where we were fishing. Now,no steps on boats to take away the temptation!Tom
