The other side is hoping for some beginner's dumb luck. A couple friends wanted to give it a try last year. Saturday before registration, we were still scraping a crew and a few bucks together. Went in with a total of only $3,200. Fortunately went into all the meat divisions. Day three, shotgun rod goes down on a Wide Range Blue Marlin lure. Caught a 42,1/2lb. wahoo. The first Hoo of the week to quailfy and netted $27k as second place wahoo money for the week. Would have been worth close to $60k, but a 43lber was caught on day five.
Debating on quiting while ahead, but was one of the most fun fishing weeks ever for me and my crew!
