    WIRING GLOVES..BIG FISH

What's your preference on Gloves for wiring/leadering..let's keep it to over 100#'s and pelagics. Hopefully, some pro-pit guys will weigh in here with some info that may save someone an injury and a good fish. Obviously, it's the experience wearing the gloves..every edge in the game helps. Respond with fish size, surely over a certain size the hand protections changes..but what size and when do you break out the welders gloves..?

I BREAK OUT THE WELDERS GLOVES ON ALL BLUE MARLIN BITES ...AND ALL BILLFISH SPECIES IF IT IS A KILL TOURNY....I DON'T CARE HOW SMALL HE IS...WHITE BLUE OR SAIL....I WEAR PROTECTION!!!....BILL RASH & LEADER CHAFFE IS A TOUGH THING TO LIVE WITH AND CAN BE AVOIDED WITH GOOD GLOVES

AND ....IF I AM LEADERING A GIANT BLUEFIN.... EXPECIALLY DURING THE TAG/RELEASE DAYS WHEN I NEED TO HOLD A GIANT FOR PHOTO OPS.....I DON THE HIDE....

ONE THING THAT IS WRONG WITH WELDERS GLOVES....NOW KEEP IN MIND THAT I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT THEM ....BUT THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH LEATHER INVOLVED HERE.....I MEAN MY HAND IS NOT EXACTLY HUGE....AND THE FINGERS ON LEATHER GLOVES ARE 2 INCHES TOO LONG....

I WOULD GIVE MY LEFT NUT TO GO TO THE SWEATHOUSE WHERE THESE GLOVES ARE SEWN AND HAVE THEM CUSTOM FIT MY WIRING GLOVES....AND ADD A PIECE OF HIDE IN CERTAIN AREAS...AND REMOVE SOME THICKNESS IN OTHER AREAS.....AND MAKE THE FINGERS THE PROPER LENGTH

I REMOVE THE INNER LINING OF MY WIRING GLOVES SO TO GET A BETTER FEEL OF THE SITUATION

AND I ADD THE STANDARD MEATFISHGLOVE TO THEM FOR A BETTER NON SLIP GRIP....NOTE THE BLUE THREAD ON THE YELLOW GLOVES....THAT DENOTES XXL SIZE....THESE YELLOW GLOVES COME COLOR CODED....

ONE NEGATIVE TO "COLORED OR DYED" WELDERS GLOVES: THEY WILL BLEED....BLUE...RED...BROWN...DOESN'T MATTER...THEY WILL BLEED....WHAT A FREAKING MESS THEY CAN MAKE...GREY COLORED GLOVES SEEM TO BE COLOR FAST...THAT IS WHY I DO MY BEST TO KEEP THEM DRY...AND IN THE EVENT THEY GET WET...I GO TO MY BACKUP PAIR

CRANK IT UP AND CLICK ON THIS LINK FOR MY GLOVES IN ACTION

    http://www.viddyou.com/viddstream?videoid=56913

I LOVE THE WAY NASCAR DRIVER GLOVES APPEAR TO FIT THEIR FINGERS VERY SNUG....MAYBE I SHOULD CALL MATT KENSETH AND BORROW HIS....THEY SEEM TO BE WORKING PRETTY WELL FOR HIM RIGHT NOW.

WHILE I DO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SFC AD PURCHASE AND THAT IS WHY I DECIDED TO ADD MY 2 CENTS TO YOUR THREAD HERE............WITH THAT SAID, I STILL HOLD STEADFAST AND FIRM ON MY PREVIOUS COMMENTS, OPINIONS AND THOUGHTS I MADE ON YOUR "LINE OF LURES."

Ditto on what Marty said. The only difference in my gloves is that I have a medium soft leather stitched on the spots that get the most stress at any shoe repair shop. Then I add the yellow gloves on top. I had these done for me at Matthews Shoe repair in MHC. As you can see they've gotten some use over the years and still keep going. This is just the way I do mine.

    Fit Trick

Fit trick for the Welder's Gloves.

Soak them in Hot Hot Water, as soon as you can stand it put the on your hands and let them cool and shrink to fit.

Do that a couple of times.

The AFTCO gloves do not have enough paddings/protection for wiring hot blue marlins.I saw a mate get his hand hurt using them last summer.
