''MATE-TRIX Sportfishing''
maybe...
what pound test is it?
Pull it with someone else with slightly lighter line on the other side...If the line breaks before the connection... then you are good, but remember that it may wear through after use...
If its wrapped good and tight shouldn't have any issues.....
I believe that Joe Shute used fly tying thread in his video on making windon leaders.
tie the one end to a truck, and the other end to a tree. and put the truck in drive![]()
i have never used the fly tying thread, thats what i use to make my witches, i use waxed rigging floss to lash my windons. then zapagap her to finish it.
Back er' down!!
Hey Austin,
That's a great question and I think it's great you are doing this stuff yourself. That's the kind of stuff that makes great fishermen.
Mr. Joe Shute's or Basil are the go to guys for your question on this site. There are many different types of fly tying material out there and you could get the wrong one, some are just regular sewing thread and some are bad ass multi strand nylons. They might even put waxed thread on a old spool and use a fly tying tool for that matter, who knows. I hope Joe or Basil will chime in on this one.

Hey Austin.
New to Wind ons myseft, but it would seem to me that the Serve is to allow a smooth transition thru the rod guide.
Not to hold the wind on together, chinese finger puzzle tak
car o tht. Looks smooth, if it holds up, Should be good ?
Expert replies welcomed.

That should be fine. The thread is only there to make sure the splice does not pull out under low strain.
Austin, I use a very heavy 200 denier fly tying thread wrapping it very tight over the hollowcore to finish my wind-ons. I run it up about 3 inches and then back down over it-self and then finish off the whip. I do put a thin film of zap over the thread just to help with wear as it goes in and out of the guides.
