A fully adjustable magnetic cast control system sets these versatile lever drag reels apart. The cast control system lets you to launch baits like you would with a typical casting reel by regulating pressure on the forged-aluminum anodized spool during each cast, maximizing distance and preventing backlashes. An oversized, stainless steel XL Gearing system gives you balanced power and speed for hauling in big fish and working fast-action lures. A lightweight, corrosion-resistant frame promotes easy handling for quick sight-casts and extended fights. Ultrasmooth five-bearing drive system with quick-set anti-reverse for hard-hitting hooksets. Heat-resistant Carbonite drag. A titanium-coated Strong Arm levelwind system lays line evenly across the spool for smoother casts with fewer kinks. Ergonomic handle knob.

    John...

Where do we post the fishing tip?

If it's here, then here is my tip.

Find the weed line/flotsam and work from there. Once you catch the first one, leave it in the water, to attract his buddies. I've only fished for Mahi Mahi in South Florida.

P.S. I fly for a major airline that goes into PBI and FLL. If you PM me and I happen to be flying down there, give me your cell number and I'll look for those weed lines on the arrival and then call you to tell you where they are!

One of the best tip that I can give for someone wanting to catch Mahi, especially for those of you that can't rig a ballyhoo is to fish with what we call here in North Carolina as a "Dolphin Weenie". A "dolphin Weenie" is a 4 1/2 inch octopus skirt, usually green and chartruese or blue and white, rigged on 80 lb mono. You insert a 1/2 egg sinker into the head of the octopus skirt and that is all the weight you need. On the end of the leader attach a Mustad 3407SS-6/0 long shank double strong hook and on that hook put on a Uncle Josh white pork rind strip. The best thing about the pork rind strip, is that the Mahi can't get it off the hook and will keep biting it until they get the hook, and at the end of the day you can put it back in the jar and use it the next day.You can pull this bait and catch all the Mahi you want from small bailers to 50 lb. bulls. They pull over weeds and don't get weeded up like ballyhoo rigs. They are simple, cheap and the most effective lures that I have ever pulled or made for Mahi.

I don't ahve a rigged picture here at the house, but I do have one at the shop. I will down load it tomorrow.

    No fish box?

If you are fishing with baits and after gaffing the dorado you can grab the tail and witn the same shock leader of the hook and with out remove it from the dorado mouth you can rap the tail and that dorado its no going anywhere,

If your fishing with small lures then you can take a 3 ft long 130 lbs or 200 lbs dacron and tie a 7/0 size hook in one end and 1 135lbs snap swivel to do the same work, just put the hook in the mouth firts and then rap the dorado tail,

    suerte,

When purposly targeting dolphin drop your speed to 5 kts when you get a swarm of gaffers popping pins then drop your baits back to get multible bites from the straglers. When there is a weedline holding but not producing you can try a few things one drop a jig with a curly tail WAYYY deep and reel it as fast as you can back up to entice a bite if this doesn't work pin on a flying fish or a ballyhoo on a large spinning rod and pitch it across their heads they tend to track it in the air and intercept it upon splashing in the water. For the last tip if all else fails use the biggest nastiest topwater chugger you can get and rip it across the surface.

When the tuna aren't biting, targeting dolphin around the lobster buoys can save the day. If the water color and temperature are good then dolphin are around. When you drive around the lobster buoy, then throw a butterfish chunk and see if a dolphin is around the lobster buoy. If a dolphin is here, then take light tackle out. A small swivel, 25lb leader with a 2/0 shank hook. Cast under the lobster buoy. When you feel bite, then let them eat it. Pull the rod and you will see a dolphin jump out of the water. When you are ready to get a dolphin out of the water....I RECOMMEND YOU TO NOT DO IT. Leave dolphin in the water. So, another dolphin will follow you. When another crew catches a dolphin then you can get a dolphin out of the water. Same route.

    Thumbs up DoDo Sucess...

The Dorado, Dolphin, or Mahi is a fairly easy offshore fish to hang. The key is to find them. Once located, usually around flotsam or weedlines, they can be caught by either trolling past the floater several times or backing up to it and fishing from a drifting platform. Structure offshore such as lobster pots and bouys also hold Mahi as well, however, these are usually held to the bottom and do not drift. I don't reccomend You tie to one.
When trolling small green/yellow or blue/white feathers or sea witches seem to work very well with dink Ballys. When fishing from a dead boat, great results can be had using very small chunks of any shiny fish such as butters, peanut bunkers, small pieces of Ballhoo and even frozen shiners to hold fish while larger chunks of the same are live-lined into the mix. Usually the DoDo's will stay until You catch'em all or, the school will grow and You will bail them into the boat. I have actually seen a Blue Marlin swim through the school of Mahi during a frenzy on one sucessful trip. Light tackle is an aweful lot of fun when fishing this way. All in all the Dorado is a great way to save the day when nothing else will cooperate.

The #1 Mahi Tip - If you see something floating - anything - a balloon, a cardboard bait box, a coconut - ANYTHING... It is worth your time to take a turn or 10 around the floater. If you see small fish underneath (baitfish) don't be in a hurry to move away.
