We fished started this morning at 7:00AM at the tip of the Wilmington in ugly green 77 degree water. We worked our way down the east wall and off into the deep with no bite other then a few small dolphin around the pots. At 10:30 we worked our way back into the east wall and had a 125 pound class bigeye pile on a horse ballyhoo with a blue and white Islander fished 100 yards back on the center rigger. After we put that fish in the boat we worked the area for another area and did not have anymore bites other then the black flys that swarmed the cockpit.Around 12:00 we worked north on the 100 fathom line towards the spencer but the further up the beach we got the less bait we were marking. So we turned around about 5 miles short of the Spencer and trolled back towards the Wilmington. About 2 miles from the spot we caught the first bigeye we had another one pile on a spreader bar on the short rigger but this fish was much bigger. He took a fifty wide down to a quarter spool before we could clear all of the lines. As I watched the gold on the bottom of the spool get brighter I pushed the drag up to full in a last ditch effort to stop the fish but just as I hit full the hook pulled with about 100 feet of line left on the spool.
We did see 1 Blue Marlin tailing in the same area and a friend of mine was working the same area and went 3 for4 on Bigeyes.
