We have been having some really kick a$$ Bluefin fishing lately with a lot of variety of techniques working to put these bad boys in the boat. Last week we had success trolling these fish behind scallop boats, chunking the lumps in 30 fathoms and our last trip took us to the vicinity of the Elephant Trunk for some scallop boat fishing.
Our last trip took us to the Elephants Trunk in search of Yellowfin, Wahoo, and Dolphin on the troll with My Dad, Geno, Marco, and myself. After searching around the tip we made our way down the East Wall with little life around we spotted a fleet of Scallop boats in the distance and made our way that direction. We trolled unsuccessfully around the boats and switched up to using the fresh guts we got off one of the boats. It had to be one of the coolest things I have ever seen when the Scallop guys were lowering down guts to us I seen at least a 100 pound Bluefin rip across the surface eating the scraps flowing out of this boat ! What a cool sight!!! After setting up on the drift right next to the boat I hooked up the first fish of the day which Marco fought for well over an hour before we broke him off . We ran back up to the boat and had another fish on in a matter of minutes which we fought for a while until a giant tiger shark bit the tail off. He didn't get any of the meat and we were able to get the fish in the boat. After that it was all catch and release since there were no fish under 47" under that boat. We released 2 more fish to about 150# before everyones arms were too tired to reel anymore in. The last fish of the day which was by far the biggest was getting followed to the boat by at least a 500# tiger shark. As the tuna was making his turns the shark was hot on his tail. Not wanting to harm him or get him eaten by the shark we cranked up on the drag and got him to the boat for a quick release where he then left the tiger in his dust !!!!
What a great vacation week it was!!! I have some pics and videos of the last trip that I will post later on. Here are some pics of our chunking trip last Monday.
