    Widowmaker and Joanee Offshore Reports...8/16-8/18

Sorry for the delay in reporting sine I am on vacation and haven't been near a computer a lot lately.

    Saturday 8/16/08:

Capt. John, My Dad (mcc), My Grandpop (Guaranteed), Geno, Jason, Matt Fruits, and myself jumped on the Joanee in hopes of finding something to bend the rod over. After the past 2 weekends with only a couple lost White Marlin it was time to put some meat on the deck! We left Margate at 4:00am in route to the 30 fathoms ranges for a troll/chunk trip. 10 miles short of our original destination we spot a handful of scallop boats and we started marking fish right around them. After quickly rigging some ballys and deploying our full spread of meat we had a 50 wide screaming only to pull the hook shortly after. Back up on the troll it wasn't long before we put our 44" under fish in the boat. The rest of the morning we had pretty good action on the tuna in this no name area short of the 30 line, putting another BFT in the boat which was our over fish at 56". The 3rd fish of the day was by far the coolest as we watched father and son battle a decent sized BFT which they got to the boat took a few pictures and cleanly released the under fish to fight another day. Way to go Jason on a perfect fight . This kid is going to be one hell of a Captain in a few years ! The BFT bite slowed after the sun got high in the sky so after boating a nice gaffer Dolphin we moved out to the 40 line inside the Wilmington to try for some billfish or YFT. Nothing going on out there so we headed to the barn. Right on the 30 line headed home we pulled the hook on one more tuna and had a few small Dolphin bites. All in all what a great day with a great crew. Water was 77 inshore and 80 on the 40. Grey/blue inside and a little better offshore.

    Monday 8/18/08:

My Dad, Chuck, Matt, and myself jumped on he Widowmaker for a chunk trip to the 30 line...yes that's right I chunk every once in a while . Leaving Cape May before we got hammered by tournament boats wake we cleared Cape May inlet a little before 4:00am. After our 61 mile run we set up and had fish on sardines in about 30 minutes . We boated a nice sized 56" fish and not to much longer after that we had a another BFT on which was the strongest fish I think I ever seen/fought. We were on him for at least an hour and a half and thought for sure we had our 73+ incher. Upon finally getting him to the boat we seen he wasn't 73+ but approx. 58" . This fish earned his freedom and was released unharmed to fight another day. After those 2 fish it was getting close to noon so we picked up on the troll to try and find an under fish or a Wahoo. Nothing on the troll so we headed to the barn. Water temp was 75 degrees and grey/blue. Fish were caught on floater sardines way away from the boat.

Ok I'm off to the Mako to go play around with some weakies out front. Stand-by for more reports...

Wahoonbox me and FightingIrish45 are probably going to come down tomorrow night to shoot the $hit. Should I bring some Dr. Peppers? lol
