to gain research on the fish. If Barbra didnt start the tag a Giant program then the myth of fish mixing with eastern stocks would still be just that a myth....Its all about the research and I believe its starting to work against ICCAT even though they dont listen to anyone but themselvs, sooner or later they will have to break the chain of not giving a shit and start to regulate the fishery....yeah who am I kidding
its also neet to see where and when the fish move and how far they get before capture. Its also a good tool to find spawning grounds and close them off to commercial harvest like the gulf of mexico.
Any info gained by tagging is great. Especially if it helps U.S. fishermen. The giants should be the ones we kill, they have spawned year after year. Rod and reelers and stickers are a selective, as opposed to longlining and pair trawling.
The problem is the rest of the world does not care, they just want money. Our past generations did the same thing. So how can we preach conservation and expect anyone to listen ? So many issues, besides fishing ,are going down the exact same path. My 2 cents
The water's always blue(er) on the other side!
Tagging can yeild info on migratory patterns of bait and predator fish which, could possibly change or have already started to change with global warming. No doubt that ICCAT has not done much to regulate other than US fishermen and that tagging info can and has been used against the commercial/recreational interests here in the US as far as openings and creel limits. But what would we have with no tagging?

I think they need to tag all size fish...it seems the over abundance of small fish that we have now disappears every year...meaning where do they go? Do they go east, south....just hang out in the gulf stream...I mean they never seem to get bigger, or was there just such a lag in year classes that we will see another jag of giants emerge in the next two years? why does PEI have so many big fish....where do they go? the last bite we had inj Chatham about three weeks ago now....there was one tagged fish caught, that for the past 6 months just hung out east of Georges....we need this information to figure out if these fish spawn every year...ect
