Fatcat...Another Baja Man! Right on! Love that cat. Great boat for down where you're fishing. I used to watch the ones from the fly fishing fleet in Cabo go floating by like there was nothing to it in the nasty afternoon conditions we often had while I was taking it easy in my 36 and taking angles on the real bad boys. Very nice!

I want to make it clear that I am talking about the hollow ProSquids mentioned earlier, not the molded soft plastic ballyhoo imitations that look so real. We tried them all and they just didn't catch nearly as well as the real ballies. I don't know why, but we tried them a lot and just didn't catch many fish with them. Interestingly enough, we have found the same thing with the molded squid imitations versus the hollow ones. The latter work a lot better, which is why we don't offer molded squids on our SuperBars, something that would be easy as pie to do.

When we finished our testing and were confident enough to switch over from the real stuff to the squids we eliminated a lot of cost, storing, rigging and other hassles - significant factors for a charter operation anywhere, but perhaps especially in Mexico and maybe some other foreign venues. However, I do know that I personally would not hesitate to make the switch no matter where I was fishing.

Of course, that's me, but I do hope that some others give this a fair shot because it could save them a lot in many ways too.

Here's another look at the squid I am talking about - or should I say "ballyhoo"?

Buenas suerte down there in paradise, amigo Gata Gordo!

Thanks Fred, The Cat isn't perfect, but I've managed to completely ware-out the motors over the last 9 years. Somehow I'd managed to put 26,000 knotical miles on it. But, she's caught a lot of fish. I really like to marlin fish solo (old guys extreme sport) and the boat works well for that.

How can I get your bars and spiders down here? David Jones said he might be having them sometime back, but I haven't heard any more. I'm here full time, so it's difficult to get stuff from the states.

    Gata,

Yow, mucho tiempo sur las machinas y el barco! You certainly have gotten your money's worth out of your boat and motors and a not-so-friendly environment.

Contact our Chris Jones (David's son) on the mail on our website and let him know what you want. Of course, he's had a ton of experience fishing bars down there, so you might wind up having a good discussion and getting some good advice from him, and perhaps he will get some from you - wouldn't surprise me one bit!

Be sure to keep an eye out for the article I will be posting shortly on what we call "The Poor Boy High Speed Wahoo Lure". It is inexpensive as hell and is not in our catalog, and I show and tell how to make your own for poco dinero, too. More importantly, it works like crazy down there or anywhere else that wahoo roam (and tuna and marlin and sails and dorado and so on.) I'm sure you'll like it and will knock the poo-poo out of the fish with it.

We send a lot of stuff down to The Baja and between you, Chris and David, I'm sure that we can get you what you want easy and fast.

You mention fishing by your lonesome. Hawaii is another place where a lot of guys do that. In fact, one of our field guys runs a cat charterboat out of Molokai. He market fishes rod and reel on days when he doesn't have charters. This guy, Captain Clay Ching, is one heckuva great fisherman and he has that fishing alone thing nailed down pat. He's having a video/DVD professionally shot and produced for us on that style of fishing. I think you'll really like it. We'll let you know when it's ready.

The picture is Cappy Clay. Obviously, he's another one of those young punks like you and me!

    Gata,

Glad you and Chris are talking. David is shooting a lot of video for us in La Paz and Cabo. He just told me that he'd love to drive over and do some shooting with you. Are you for it? Might be fun. And of course, he can probably deliver your bars and give you some on the water pointers with them.

WOW! That would be great Fred. Right at the moment I'm up to my neck trying to get a boat ready to fish the East Cape Bisbee next week. After that I'll have some time to contact Chris and David. And I promise I'll do so.

Roger all, Gata. Good luck in the EC Bisbee (I'd love to see a little boat win it). David says the water is warming way up and you know what that means - there might be some big black or blue girls around. Buena pesca y buenas suerte amigo. We'll set some taping up after the tournament is over. I suspect you guys'll have a real good time.

Shoot, now that have vids being shot in Hawaii and The Baja, all I guess we need is one from the east coast and maybe NZ or Australia and we maybe we can do a "Cathouse Movie"...oh, my!

Keep an eye out for our neat little wahoo (and lots of other species) trick. I'm gonna post the article here in a bit. Meantime...
