I am a member of a couple of different boards, one thing I have noticed is the negative threads gather a lot of attention. You can put up a good thread in the offshore forum and you may get 10 replies. You put up a negative thread and it goes into 10 pages. Why? John and Jer try to run a first class show with out all the nonsense so why all the negativity? Out of all the members it also seem like the same ones are posting reports all the time. I know I am guilty of it to mainly because when I get in I am to tired to put up a report and then its right back into work. We need more offshore reports.

Seems like these days the world thrives off of disapointment, negativity, and out right bull sh#t. Just like the news people don't watch it to here of all the good they just want to thrive off the bad course it would help if they reported anything good.

Thats the reason we canceled our newspaper. If there was anything else on in the morning I would watch it. I am tired of hearing about people getting shot in Philadelphia, people getting robbed, etc etc.

I'm not sure views to reply ratio means much. I think most people only reply if they feel they have something worth saying. Other people reply to everything to keep their name popping up. Just because you don't get a large number of replies doesn't necessarily mean the content was not well received by those who viewed. There are many threads I read and enjoy, but have nothing to add.

I agree that the negative seems to draw alot of attention and participation. If you could schedule a train wreck, you'd have a big crowd turn out to watch it. Schedule a ceremony to award a boy scout a lifesaving medal and noone will show up. Human nature (or maybe American nature), unfortunately.

But with around 16K members, you're gonna have negativity and you're gonna have people who enjoy it. I try to ignore it.....that is unless I decide to pile on .

Along the same lines as what Taxi is saying. I look at a lot of threads, but don't reply to them unless I feel I have something intelligent to add. This site for example seems to have a lot of people on it that have a lot more experience offshore fishing than I have. I am 27 and I am not going to post something out my ass and contradict someone who has been fishing a lot longer than I have. I try and keep my mouth shut and learn, but that just me.

Hope this is not adding to the fire, but here is my take on it.

I used to post much more often on these internet boards. I tired of the "Thanks for your insight & valuable input, but here is why you are an idiot & I am a fish god....." kind of remarks.

If you have an opinion, state it. If it differs from another, we're all smart enough to figure that out. You don't need to say it.

opinions are like a$$holes, and now maybe I am one too for being a complainer.

can't wait to get to CR & get back to fishing....in Palm Beach right now getting rid of personal stuff left behind.
anyone want to buy some christmas lights or a garbage can for the bathroom?
