    Who's right/ who's wrong

What do you all think about this? I feel bad for this guy, but the law is the law. Should there be some kind of loophole to make it a win win for everyone involved in a situation like this? Maybe a value tax the fisherman would have to pay out of the proceeds! I am curious to know what you guys think.

It's complete B U L L S H I T that his fish was stolen from him. Especially one that would have brought that kind of coin. From a sportsman's perspective though, I wouldn't be proud of fish I caught in a net, just happy that I was going to get paid.

    I Think It's Called SNAFU,

Take from a guy that's working for a living and give it (in this case the proceed's will go to the Fed Gv't) to the lazy asses that won't get out of the way. Of course it make's perfect sense, not!!! The fish was an "incidental" catch. It was probably dead (if not, it was stressed) when the guy hauled his gear back. They tow for groundfish at approx 2.2 knot's, so it was more than likely caught when the gear was set on it's way to the bottom. What would have made more sense, just throw a fish of this class back over dead? Common sense has gone completely out the window. He couldn't catch another with bottom trawl gear, if his life depended on it.

This case makes just as much sense as farmer's being able to shoot/kill as many deer in their field's as they want. Just as long as they leave them lay, that's right you can't eat them. Yup, regular rocket scientist's we've got running the show!!! Frank

I think it is a crock. It is bycatch and he had a permit. the fish is his to sell not give to the feds.

WOW. How much by catch is thrown back over dead ?
Admittedly this was a great fish. But 1000's of tons of smaller fish are thrown back dead all the time.
    Rules are rules.
This guy followed them but didn't know he couldn't keep a netted Tuna ?
Should have checked the rules before he paid for the permits.
If allowed to be kept and financially rewarding you would see a lot more "incidental" catch brought to the docks.
Not a greenpece kinda guy here but how about whatever you bring to the boat in your nets
you bring o the dock and it counts toward total tonnage allowed.
    People food, Cat food whatever.
No small tuna, no stripers no dead tonnage of by-catch.
Sorry guys, Just like the farmer that can shoot as many deer as he wants as long as he lets them rot,
I have a problem with throwing tons of dead fish back in just cause they are to small or not in season.
    Joe
