Who Knows What Poor Girls Open

Have some ladies ready to fish for the charity, but I don't have the details of the Tournament, I know its a 1 of 3 day event. Does anyone know the format, can mate hook the fish then pass the rod like the WMO, also what are entry's and calcuttas?

I sent an e-mail to Bahia Marina for a copy of the rules, but haven't heard back,

    Any help would be appreciated

If the tournament follows IGFA rules (as I remember) then the angler must hook and play the fish. No one can touch the rod or the line. The mate is allowed to wire or leader the fish and gaff it. I also do not think that harpoons are legal to use in place of a gaff.

They never respond to update their tournament listing either. This is all I have

he Poor Girls Open is a ladies only billfish release tournament benefiting breast cancer research. There are also added entry levels for tuna and dolphin. This tournament was started by Capt. Steve Harman as a way for local waitresses and bartenders to have an affordable and fun competition while raising money for a very important cause. The tournament continues to grow with over 100 boats entering. Participation is not limited only to anglers as there are silent auctions, 50/50 tickets, T-shirts for sale, and other fun events helping to raise money for breast cancer research. In the past 3 years alone, the Poor Girls Open has raised over $100,000 that was donated to the American Cancer Society.

The Poor Girls is a hook and hand release tournament. Fish 1 out of 3 days. We were chartered twice last year for it. it is my favorite tournament of the season. I dont know the entry or the calcuttas but half goes to breast cancer awareness.

We've had a charter for the last few years for this tourney, too. I agree, it's a LOT of fun. The Capt. or mate can hook the fish, as far as I know, but must immediately hand the rod to the angler. Circle hooks are manditory on natural baits.
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

OK, I finally got a copy of the rules, ANYONE can hook the fish, but must then immediately pass the rod to the angler, same as the WMO.

Sounds like fun, we'll be down for the WMO, so were just going to stay around and do this one as well, see ya'll there.
