Baydivot, here is my original post...
It is that time of year (when the right conditions prevail) the White Marlin bite can be outstanding. Over the past couple weeks a sporadic bite has keep things interesting. However, the last couple days the bite has busted wide open. Normally I would not include this much detailed information on a post, but, the bite is not going to last long and I sincerely hope those of you interested get the opportunity to experience a white bite that is “as good as it gets”. Here is the information....
Packs of white’s are hunting like wolves, balling bait from the triple 000’s north to around the 110 line. Best bite is occurring between 70 and 85 fathoms in 82 degree water. Today (Tuesday) we concentrated efforts between the 085 and 110 line (Poormans). Packs of five and six white’s at a time were observed tailing and cutting under birds (shearwaters). Lost count of the number of bites, but several times had triples in the spread. When you locate a flock of birds working, circle and stick with them. Today our crew worked pretty well together and managed to catch and release 17. Don’t settle for one hook-up, continue trolling for the doubles and triples. Using circle hooks is the key to multiple hookups. Fish have a difficult time spitting circle hooks compared to J’s while the boat circles looking for additional hookups. However, use caution. We were very lucky today when a white turned and charged the boat while backing down on two fish. It went airborne, came over the transom and just missed thrusting it’s bill into an unsuspecting angler working his fish!

close call, but sounds like you had a great day that day other than this incident, and thanks for putting that up.
Great Shot!!
We also had a white jump in the boat a few years ago when Bubba Carter was running the Southpaw down in VZ. The damn thing charged the boat, went airborne and stuck in the deck--the bill actually went into the black stuff between the teak strips. Hung there like a lawn dart for a full second before the bill broke off about two inches from the tip. We opened the cockpit door and released that one the hard way...

Thats crazy, at least it didn't break off in your....use your imagination
That is a GREEN MARLIN if I ever saw one!!At least that's what I like to call them. Needlefish...houndfish...bait killer...Ticos will eat one in a min.
I did some more research and actually although a Houndfish is in the needlefish family, what we actually caught were...Atlantic Needlefish!
They don't grow as big as a houndfish and houndfish don't have the vertical stripes near the tail.
Rather cool looking fish though they don't grow over 3ft, whereas the houdfish grow to 5ft.
here's a better picture
