White ones out of Oregon Inlet on the Fishbucket; 8/26

Met the crew in Nags Head on Wed evening. Confirmed some numbers with the Sea Toy on Thurs AM before leaving Pirates Cove and we were off. Nice calm ride out with plenty of time to rig baits and add some meat to the dredge.....all circle hooks on this trip. Pulled up to our spot which was already on fire with many of the PC and OI fleet already around...the bite was more to the north on this day. 20 minutes in and a double hookup to start the day. I left the port corner long enough to grab a water and Matt slides into my spot and picked off the first one on the flat line. After a LONG drop back, we were hooked up and immediately had another engulf the starboard long line where Rob was on him like a flash. We worked both to a release...one even came charging to the transom and billed the letters for us. We continued to work the area and picked up another single for Jimmy. We had a couple more come in to the spread and miss the teasers but never turned to the hooked baits. At one point, we circled some diving birds only to see a school of cutters tearing up a bait ball. We couldn't get them to eat but what a show as they came flying out of the water and pushing bait to the top. CRAZY to see it.

We set up a mouse trap down the middle between the 2 teasers and in no time a big one came tearing in....drop...drop...drop....whamo! This one was feisty as you will see in the video. Took a little while to get this one to the boat as every time it heard the diesels in reverse, it peeled the line. After we touched leader, I laid the drag to it and added additional drag w/ both thumbs. The line held and 25 min or so later, number 4 was released healthy and ready to fight another day.
