    WHITE MARLIN & LIGHTNING STORM

Well here is a cool short video by Cody>>>>>>>

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...16728873365104

After a long boring trip at West Altlantis with no eatable fish to show for the lightning and the little white marlin, that was all that really happened, we came home early through because of a huge lightning storm. Alfred is usually the 1st person to say to go in because of dangerous weather . . . but, this trip he did not want to go in and thinks we could have hunkered down and sat out the storm.

Even I thought we should go in because that lightning was crazy. For whatever reason, this trip, the dolphin were very active, lots of bait down deep, more so than on a usual trip as well as lots of big turtles.

But all together, it was cool seeing Cody catch a little white (maybe 25-30lbs) I would have rather been catching even some of those small yellows in The Tails which we were attempting to run back to before the storm really became large and very dangerous looking. 400-miles long x 100-miles wide coming right at us. But, no big deal there is always next time to bring home some yellowfin for the BBQ.

Any white is a good white. Congrats!

Those northern canyons are a great place to spend some time. The life out there is always amazing.

Love the Bird, does it double as a life raft?

Man, that's some lightening! Aluminum boat and fierce lightening, not a good combo. Glad you made it home safe, cool vid.

    FAT2NA,

    On the contrar,

Alloy and steel boats are probably the safest in the ocean. As long as the tower and cabins are properly grounded, which mine is.. the FARADAY theroy applies. the aluminum hull is a straight ground to the water... the tower and cabin creates a sheild for the tenants to be safe under.

I never want to test the theroy...and would worry most about losing my electonics or engine electronics which is why I triple fused the electronics and rigged the feeds at a 90-degree bend where the wires meet my fuse blocks. My thought is why the NEC (Nationa Electrical Code) recommends no sharp 90-degree turns on grounding rod cables or any ground cable because a lightning surge will jump off the cable. In a boat, I figure it will pop the first fuse and jump and disapat at the 90-degree tun on the third fuse without blowing up the electronics.

Like Isaid, don't really want to test the theroy either way. I would rather run around or run away which is why I got my Garmin XM Real Time Westher unit. Mrty

Gotcha. I did not know that. I was hit in the Bahamas a couple years ago in Cat Isl. on a 65 Viking, it fried everything, made for an interesting ride home to Lauderdale.
