Where to fish Ft Lauderdale

Hey guys,

Heading to Ft Lauderdale for vacation and curious where and what to fish for? Ill be in the Light House Point area. This is my first time fishing in Florida.We will be going out in a small CC hopefully for dolphin and maybe some sails if they are there. We would also like to try some bottom fishing. Any certain lures, dead baits, live baits?Any help would be appreciated Thanks guys

Hillsboro Inlet is easy to navigate and it's around 80' at the channel head pin. If you want sails and mahi get some live bait. You could either slow troll or if you know how, fly a kite. 100'-240' zig zag in and out, it changes depth quick. Find the color change or rips and weeds and fish should be close. $25 a dozen for pilchards, $70-$80 a dozen for goggle eyes. You can troll dink hoos if you want but live bait will bring a better shot of catching sails. Head up to Boca Inlet and just inside you can net or sabiki pilchards. Boca can be dangerous on a wind against tide situation so be careful if the seas are running. You could also try around the ships anchored out front of Port Everglades for runners and speedos (not the bathing suit kind). There is plenty of reef to fish right out front if you want bottom fish so just watch your finder. Also a plethora sunken ships and other junk for jacks and cudas, search the net for artificial reefs in Broward County.
