    When to use baitrunner function?

I have some baitrunner type reels (6500 size loaded with 30lb PP) that I have used livebaiting in FL with success. I want to use them offshore for the usual suspects, wahoo, tuna, dorado, sails down here. I dont have experence with LB offshore. When do I want to use this function and when dont I. I imagined type of hook used has something to do with it (circle vs J)? Mostly using big threadfins and small blue runners.

I use bait runners around fads for Mahi almost exclusivly.

Come up up current, cast out your live bait and switch on bait runner. Let the fish eat and switch off the bait runner. Hook up. Its almost fool proof. Just got to give the fish time to eat.

Also good when we are bottom fishing on the pick. We can put a livie out uner a baloon and forget about it until the fun starts. They are a great reel however i wouldnt trust one on a wahoo, though saying that got plenty of big sharks on mine as by catch.

Just remeber when fishing for sails with circle hooks set your drag at about 7#. Heavier drags pull more hooks.
