    when gaffing a shark

... if I am going to use two gaffs, normal gaffs, how big should the hook be? Is 4 inches big enough or do I need to go with a a 5 or 6 inch hook??

Go with a harpoon instead. Unless of course you are tournament fishing.

Man, I took a lot of heat for this one. Now equiped with a flyer, a gun, tail ropes and a couple grenades. Started with a heavy 4" but he just kept rolling off. Ended up with a 4 and a 6 to subdue the SOB. Not my prettiest work but effective

Lou, Is a 12" DexterRussell key to the kill? Your video still ranks among the best!

6" at least, maybe even a flyer.

Lou that is the greatest vid putting a shark down...

MakoCharters a 4" will get her attention followed by a flyer in the third gill followed by a well placed shot from a firearm. I witnessed it on the blue rocket this season and I had the honor of the third gill fly gaff strike while admin had her attention with the 4" and deep c capped her azz. Then tail roped. kobey was fighting another and Johnseafood was clearing a path and belting kobey up. We didn't have much time to discuss things that day as we were covered in action continually. Have your team go through the steps before hand and do not alter. If she is very large a 4 will scratch her back so use two flyers in that case followed by fire arm and tail rope. Now after all that she is still very dangerous to human flesh. If you get covered up hard, have back up plans in place
