    when to fish in Florida

I got a time share and am thinking about using it. Thge wife wants to go somewhere she hasn't ever been, and warm. We have decided Florida may be a good option. I checked some resorts that we couldd use and there is one in the middle part of Florida that also rents 15ft boats. Which is perfect because all I have to bring is my tackle. I want to catch everything when i come down that is possible to catch from a 15ft boat with a 25 hp on the back of it. The resort is near Sebastian Creek I think. the resort is Oyster Point Resort.

I need help decided when to go to ctach the most and biggest fish possible. I know how to do it all, I just would like some feedback on when would be a good time to go and what I could catch. Thanks

Anders, what kind of fishing do you have in mind? The Sebastion area has some of the best inshore fishing in FL. and is within a reasonable drive to some excelent charters.
Just 2 days ago my brother and father (Big Harry,82, and Little Harry) had a killer day fishing with Scott Fawcett on the Boneshaker out of Port Salerno. Big Yellowfins and Gaffers and they raised 3 sails. That is about an hour drive S. of Sabastion.

Port Canaveral is closer and has a number of Charters. This time of year they are running to the E. side off the stream for Yellowfins, but if the long run isn't your bag, close to home the dolphin fishing and killer bottom fishing iss good.

Inshore thate area has some of the biggest redfish in the country as well as plenty specs, snook and tipletails. As the summer approaches tarpon gather near the inlet, speaking of which golaiths live year round in the Sebastion Inlet.

Another plus is, the beach at Sebastian inlet is a beautiful spot if your wife like hanging on the beach.

    Good luck

Anders, there are several other boat rentals along Dixie Hwy. I'm not sure if any of them offer electric motors or not, but they can be a big help on the flats of Indian River or, casting around the docks for Snook. The Sebastian River has excelent snook fishing.

Cruise up and down the Indian river during a low tide and look for oyster bars. Then comeback when the tide comes up. Reds and specs will be there. Just S. of the Inlet is Pelican Island NWR, they Islands and coves are excellent for this kind of fishing, and snook and tarpon are always possable.

Also look at the local charts, Tripletail hang around the channel markers on the ICW, especially the ones closer to the Inlet. Anchor up from the markers and cast live shrimp or shrimp tipped jigs to the markers.

Thank you so much! This is ecactly what I was hoping to here. Sounds like there are plenty of fish in the area and I am going to have a blast trying to catch them.

Are most of these fish there year round? I was planning on trying to get a fall but wasn't sure if there was a better time to go than another. Thank you again!

Anders, if you are going down in October take some surf fishing gear. The mullet run on the beaches is unreal. Snook, spinner Sharks, big Tarpon and huge jack cravalles follow the mullet.
The best Surf Fishing I have ever seen was ont the beach about 35 miles south of Sebastian at Ft. Pierce in Oct. 100# + poons on live mullet. Hook up and run your ass down the beach to keep up with him. If you hit it right, you may not want to even get on a boat. Take a cast net!
