Does anyone have any plans for wheel boxes (for use when traveling, in order to bring spare set of wheels) I'm sure I can figure one out, but would like to know if there are any plans, or any tips on what not to build it out of. Thanks for the help.

A 65 Viking I worked/traveled on a few years ago had boxes made, i forget whether they were stainless or aluminum. These had padding inside to cushion the props and the edges had lips to help with carrying. If you go the metal route, I would add handles rather than trying to use the lips, it would be easier. I would also think about coating them in something white. They got pretty darn hot in the sunlight.
I'd measure the props, make a box that would fit them snuggly, and have a center piece of allthread welded to the bottom off the box, centered, and then use a large washer/plate, and a wing nut with nylon lock washer in it to keep it snugged down, sort of like a spare tire holder.... I'd built mine out of aluminum or probably in my case teak or mahogany, because im a carpenter and just love using wood. Good luck.
we had spare wheels for the 56 viking, they were made out of fiberglass with a removable hub thru it. it i was going to make one out of wood, a very dense and strong wood. such as blue boss suggested.
I agree that having a mounting stud/allthread in the center of the box is the key, so the wheel can mount inside without touching anything. Once you do that, you have nearly unlimited options as far as size/shape/material of the box to fit whatever need you have.
If you are going to go with the padding option rather than mounting on a stud, you may have luck stopping by a music store and see if you can find a hard sided case for drums that have the proper diameter for your wheel. That may be an option for you if you don't want to custom fab something.
