    What's on your Teaser Reel?

Currently outfitting a new rig and I am going to place the teasers reels in the next couple of days. This got me to thinking what do you guys spool your teaser reels up with? We place some costly investments out on those teasers from time to time, so I do not take my teaser reel spooling lightly. I usually place anywhere from #130 to #200 pound mono. Has anyone ever experimented with anything bigger or even tried a spectra line. The spectra/braid idea intrigues me. We can use a heavier pound test with respect to the mono we use and also have no stetch. When the right one piles in the teaser and you hit the button you have instant feedback. I know the braid will not suffice for the guys that hand line but it is just a thought. Opinions? Thoughts?

I've always stuck to 130-200 on the reels myself. I sometimes run transom teasers which sometimes can be much harder draggers than my usual stuff. There I go to 400 mono... The drawback to anything heavier on the reels is #1 capacity and #2 you run the risk of bending or busting a rigger...

You might want to go with 500 or 600lb. Spectra. For expensive teasers that don't float that is what we recommend. It has no "set" or memory and just glides thru the riggers.

I'm using 300 lb mono on Penn 49 Mariner's. The reason for the thicker mono is we frequently spend a lot of time shaking sargassum off the teaser and it's kinder on the hands. I set the drags so that I can get spooled if need be (hasn't happened yet), but it won't bend a rigger.

What happens when you reach the knot?

I just bend a loop in the end of the line and dropped it over the pin on the axle of the spool. I depend on having a few layers of line on the spool to keep the line on. 300 is waaay to big for a knot.

A better idea just occurred to me. The next time I spool them I'll tie them to the pin with dental floss or rigging twine. Something that will break before the rigger or reel.

I use 300 as well, to prevent bending a rigger i put about 2 feet of 30 as backing tie a short bimini in it then use a loop to loop like a wind on leader to put the 300 on. This way if i were to ever get spooled (hasnt happened yet) it wont pull down my rigger

Rock 250-300 mono so you can wrap it with your hand and pull it away from a fish and not get cut. Also lighter stuff can chafe on other lines. I'd use old 50's or 6/0's both have good drags and hold a fair amount of line. Did you buy the Jarrett bay?

should be Rock for pulling squid chains and islander chains. Keep the line where you can get your hands on it that's the best way to work them with a fish on them. What color did ya paint the hull still red? Still goiong to keep her at overbecks. Mono is better i think sure couldn't put your mits on braid to pull it away from one without drawing blood.
