I suggest putting down 10-20 ft of 20lb mono first. That way if something grabs hold and spools ya it'll snap rather than bend your rigger.
DID YOU SAY YOU WANT SOME OF THIS ACTION!!
Good ideas on the riggers no bend subject... Keep em comming... I use400 on the cleats for handling or harder pulling teasers. My riggers already look like pretzels just from tag lines and #64 bands repeatedly getting smushed... plus a few hard pulls on the regular teasers...
I have 16-18' poles out of 8 foot tubes... Really too long for single spreader. I may add a ssecond spreader next time It ake them out to be straightened. Better yet. May get a new set of poles as these have been worked and softened up a few times...

Match your line weight to what your pulling. If its squid chains then 150 to 200 is good if it's single lures use 400 so you can pull on it and not get burned and a eight foot long leader of 200 so the lure tracks better. if it's dredges like what we pull trolling for sails, whites, and small blues then step it up to 400 extra hard or even more. there is nothing worse then seeing all that hard work sink to the bottom after an angler lets their 20 lb. zip across it and burn it off. When you use hevy line like this off your riggers, have a lighter lb. test at the base of your reel that never comes off unless you have a fish get tangled in it or accedentily get it in your wheels. Riggers seem to break about the same time as 400 lb.
