Whats in your Spread number of Colors

I got thinking about this the other day based on some color changes im contemplating, just thought id get some opinons.

In a normal trolling spread how many colors do you put out, or do you keep it pretty mono..and bait being "green". Spreader Bars (Mono) same color.

Let's keep it to the searching/hunt spread..

not the "purple's killing them" spread.

For me its a regional thing... different things in different places. One constant is my "odd duck" which is a rainbow pattern in one position always.
At Chub I'm blues and purple with the one odd duck. In Bimini I'm patial to all blues with the same odd duck. St. Thomas for me was pinks and purples didn't have my odd duck then. Gulf or fall off Florida was black orange combos with perhaps a green dolphin mixed in. The keys late spring I leaned on dolphin type yellows.
Up north I get more toward darker greens and those with patterns leaning toward macks. Pinks closer to the moon have their place there too especially if there are squid of that size in the area. Again the od duck stays with me in most of my spreads... However the odd duck up north might be a purple black while the rest is green mack and rainbows...

I am by no means an expert on trolling.
    Pure novice here.
    Gotta ask this.
Lure colors are all over the spectrum.
    But.
Correct me if I'm wrong here. Everything eats MAHI,
    Big MAHI love small MAHI.
    Marlin love MAHI.
    Everything eats Mahi.
Do they change color with cloud cover etc ?
does a fish your trying to catch know there is cloud cover and the color of a Mahi is different ?
Why not imitate whatever the MAHI look like if you can ?

Why not troll Mahi colored lures and teasers, period ?,

Joe has missed my lesson about what lure fishing is all about. You're not trying to match the hatch and present something to eat like food. You are incorporating head design to beat on the latteral line. Their eyeball is the size of a tennis ball or so. THey can only see as far as the water will let them. That lateral line though runs their whole length and the can "hear" with it a lot further away.
When they raise to this mystery noise maker its not about food as such. Rather its about prey drive as they see "something" getting away. Certain hues evoke more rage and fury than others.... Thats why the color differences...

If you look at the survey, something interesting is developing..

Colors over 50% of the responses in order:

    Blue
    Green (Bait)
    Purple
    White
    Black

Colors under 50% of the responses but over in order 20%:

    orange
    yellow

Colors under 20% of the responses in order:

mono (spreader bars - all the same color)
    Red

Not quite what I would have thought..close but a few suprises..

Naked should be a choice here too!

Will always find the black, purples and blues in my spread along with plenty of "natural" naked baits.

The way I see it, the main forage for what I target more than anything (meatfish) are seen day in and day out swimming with and dining on flyers, speedo and squid hence my color choices for out front NC.

My teasers are most always green or natural (squid) or blue/clear flyers and blue/white/crystal with a hint or purple black on the ilander chains. Dredges are made up or artificial strips or rubber fish to resemble blue/silvery/black baitfish balls. Usually entire spread is the same color with the exeption of the odd man out which is a different style and color of bait/lure combo. Always keep my eye on this bait as it is usually "bit" first since it runs aways from the other bait out of the school appearance by itself.

Come to think of it, I have more confidence in naked baits than anything else which is why there is at least 2 in every one of my spreads for meat.

i pretty much go with those high percentage colors shown in the poll for my searching/hunting spread but i also have a 'change out' postion or two in the spread where i try to follow Schneider's old color/time-o'day scenario.....
