The skippies can be hard to come by in the islands...The most available baits are ballyhoo, pilchards, goggs, and blue runners...They can be found on any reef, basin, marina or inlet...Most boats down here can not keep a 10 lb skippie alive in the 50 gallon well for long...Unless you catch em in the area you are going to fish...And send them out asap...Not many have tuna tubes either...Also, have no doubt that a small football can catch the big studs.
I guess the key, what Mike said, is match the hatch and go BIG and alive...I prefer stealth (get in front of the schools and turn the engines off)...And send that live baby deep for the biggins...kind of like how us Fla. guys drift for swords...but thats just me.
