    re; white

Was the shirt you wore when you got burned designed for SPF or was it a plain old white shirt? I just bought a bunch of bone colored gear with the idea being that the lighter colors reflect the sun more. Since I am in the sun on the boat taking pics most of the time, I am not soaked enough so that the shirts are clinging to me. I even bought a pair of pants! When I get back from Panama I will report on how much of this gear I was able to wear. Plus, I got those Buff things for the face and neck.
I was in Nicaragua this past summer and the fellow who was hosting us for a bit had us on his 67' Viking. He has this awesome sunshade that covered the cockpit, but when the captain wanted to look into the cockpit, he'd pull a lever and the sunshade opened up like loevres(sp?). In fact the boat even had outdoor A/C vents that blew on the couch in the cockpit!

It was a plain cotton dress shirt, I have had no problems with the spf gear and have spent a few days surfing from sun up to sun down in Hawaii since I started wearing them!!!PEACE

Sunblock: Blue Lizard Sensitive...I get it by the gallon and it lasts a long time...much cheaper than 10 dollar bottles

Clothing: Solumbra shirts...they work pretty well...not cheap but worth the cash...I buy new ones every year...I've tried most of the shirts and they seem to be the best....second is columbia...

My wife, dad and myself have all had the skin "c" and don't mess around with it anymore. We all wear the Old Harbor shirts with hats and Bullfrog lotion. Another shirt we like is the Patagonia sun shirt, but they are a bunch of damn tree huggers. The Columbia shirts are too hot for me... The Pelagic shirts never fit me right, but my dad likes them.

The key now is to keep our kids covered up and limit sun exposure.

    One word .......STARGUARD

Sorry to use this thread as a shameless plug for one of our products, but it seems like the fishing community has more options than a sun block, hat, or a long sleeve t for sun protection.

Nowadays you can have it all...a shirt that is comfortable, breaths, and has function.

Our Marlinstar STARGUARDS are just that...

    S un protectant
    T emperature adjusting
    A ntimicrobial
    R epelling

    Guard......

Blood, guts, squid ink...won't stain this drytech shirt. It has a UPF 50 + rating (WHICH IS CERTIFIED) and technology beyond the imitations others import over seas.

The shirt breathes allowing sweat to migrate out but if suddenly dashed with a cold spray or wave....the material contracts and repells cold water.

The material is so comfortable you will find yourself wearing it all the time. It drys quick and any blood, etc will just rinse right off.
