What's wrong with this pic?

I ran across this picture on an old post in the Jigging forum by TZ575 and was truly baffled that no one there commented on the rod action. The poster had put an extra guide on near the foregrip to prevent the line eating into the grip on his conventional outfit. I'm fine with that, but if you look closely you'll see the other guides are pointing downwards when loaded, like a spinning outfit. That can't be right.

Nothing is wrong with the picture. More accurately, its the O'Quinn spiral method. This method keeps the line straight off of the reel and down the rod.

Thanks guys. Taz explained it on another forum. Interesting concept. Why not use that method on trolling rods?

No reason that you can't with either rollers or turbo guides. The only downfall of this style wrap on trolling rods is the cleaning that they get after the trip. A lot of times, the transition guide (the one the is at the 90 degree plane) will get pretty banged up on the dock, inless those putting the rods on the deck take their time and gently lay the rod down.
I have been building these style rods for years and have had many non believers call me up and order more rods once they felt the performance while the rod is under load.
I specifically like this style for pitchbait rods. With the guides under the rod, when the line is pitched, there is no wrapping of line on the turbo's or whichever guide that is used because all of the front guides are UNDER the rod and not on top.
