You know we don;t really get too many blue dogs around here lately. We did'nt even catch one last season. Another thing I do every so often is slap the side of the boat. Who knows if it works. Oh and don;t forget to freshen the baits every so often.

I agree 100% with what Marlineer said. Your crew is a big thing, everyone needs to know their jobs and tasks once a fish is hooked. A plan will help you land hooked fish. I also second adding glitter to the chum, we add confetti and it has worked well, we even do this chunking tuna at night and we've had productive days when boats super close are picking at fish. We ran to one guy, tossed him some confetti before sunrise when we limited, and he started catching for an hour or so before sunup. I'm not saying this will always happen, but it cannot hurt.
Dman25, my crew and I were also thinking about adding a kite rod to the spread, cannot hurt to get a bait way off the transom and down a little so it is in your chum slick.
Usually during the day sharks are caught anywhere from the surface to the thermocline, vary your baits evenly between this area. During the night, most sharks hit within 20ft of the surface, and often in sight of the boat. I still keep a deep bait, but my other 3 rigs are closer to the surface. Regardless of day or night, keep a rigged setup on ice, if you see a fish, toss the bait in front of him and hold on. We rig our rods with a strip of colored tape, each color signify a depth. As we move rods around due to current, we always can figure out which rod is at what depth, this helps you spread your lines out better and present them better. We fish 4 rods at staggered depths, and have one baited and ready to go, so it is a 5 rod spread.

I've had a kite out while drifting. Seems to run outside of the slick alongside the boat when the wind is behind your drift.

Yes by all means slap the boat or lightly thump the deck. Hell even dance... Sound works well.
BTW the kite goes down wind opposite of the slick. You can run a small chum bag off the outside clip and a live blue on the inside and that sets you already back in a "pre slick"... Pain in the butt but works ok...![]()

Super S - its nice to hear from you. Are you still an OCMTC member? I haven't kept up with the gang since moving down here 7 years ago.
For me, it's pretty much gotta be, start the chum slick going and then drop a seagull or two into the chumslick with a 12 ga. pump loaded with #6 birdshot.![]()

so guys i know drag a chum bucket for miles while they are picking theyre spot to set up to get sharks in the area to get a read on our slick faster..... it seems to work.
Thanks and not anymore. We stopped membership a couple years ago.
And thanks to everyone for your replies. A lot fo the methods mentioned we do use or have tried. I still think I am jinxed. Deep, do you have any voodoo magic you can do to eliminate that? I need an exorcism![]()
Super S - damn, you guys used to win, place or show in a lot of the OCMTC tournaments you entered. Why'd you stop renewing your membership? I'll bet it was because you ran out of space on the mantelpiece, right?![]()
