What size leader does everyone use for tuna fishing (chunking night or daytime)?
80 or 100# flouro(Seagaur ofcourse) for chunking purposes
Downsize to 60 if bite is slow!
60 lb flouro
No i'm being dead serious! i did a little experiment yest with different size leader at depths while freediving and i noticed very little diffrence after getting past a certain depth between a bunch of different mono's.We use alot of 400# and don't have any problem! not to mention i have used 300 in other parts of the world with very little problem of fish being leader shy!
It just doesn't make sense to me that you would use 300-400# leader for tuna that are going to on average weigh what, fifty lbs., seventy five lbs., or down Panama they average 150lbs. I mean even the guys chasing giants are only using 150-200lb. flouro right. If 300lb. works for ya then don't change a thing but giving the amount of fishing pressure these tuna see here in the northeast once they arrive I can't imagine you catching as well as a boat a few hundred yards off using 60 lb. If you're looking for swords then thats a whole different game. Just my .02
Just curious waterman, how deep were you when the different sizes of mono appeared similar? Did you have any floro in the water?
also, #60 or #80 Moimoi
not to highjack the thread but out of curiousity whats everyone use for sword rigs? I was moderately successful with 200lb but had one memorable breakoff that has me thinking about up'ing it.
