    What size Avet?

ok....... so i am in the market for one more rod (obviously this means it is just winter time and an excuse to buy another combo hahah) anyways, we run all penn and shimano gear, and i am going to buy an avet because they look like really nice units. OK, my question is, i want a reel that i can multi task aka i want this reel to be my go to rod for the fall striper run, but can also have the balls to muscle in a 60-70 lb yellowfin. I was lookin at the new model HX, it was like 400 bucks, and i am going to mate it with a shimano travela 6'6'' rod. Do you guys think this is a good setup or would u shy away from somethin that size if i want to use it for tuna chunking as well. thanks everyone

i would say either that or you might even be able to drop to an lx 2 speed. Are you gonna use it more rockfishing or tuna fishing. My lx single speeds double as rockfish and white marlin rods, if you put some braid on them they would prlly be good for tuna as well, i just dont like tunas on 25lb line

I tuna fish a lot more per year than i do for stripers, so i would classify this rod as a 'fun tuna rod' I was thinking of putting 80lb braid on it..... So you think the one i am looking at would suffice?

If you want to save money you cant go wrong with an LX single speed which I use. If you went with a 2 speed I would surely pay the extra 50 bucks for a HX Wide which is 2 speed over a LX 2 speed. The HXW is not much heavier and the line capacity is unreal for the weight. Truly impressive. Plan on getting one myself down the road.

    JX or LX

We put it to a few nice YFT this year. These are probably the most versatle rods out there. Whatelse can you go from flunder to tuna with. 65 lb braid is just fine.

    avet lx

u dont even need the HX,
put larger yellowfin and bluefin in the boat all summer with the JX.
i put 65 lb jerry brown spectra with a 60 mono topshot. think it held 450 yd total. great for jigging the tuna on a 7ft pole.

LX single or two speed is the way to go. I think the HX will be a bit cumbersome for what you are trying to use it for. I also heard they are still getting some bugs out of the HX. It has had some problems since its launch. The LX is tried a true and is extremely versatile.

    Cheers!

I just bought 3 Shimano Trevala's this winter. They are all the 5'-8" extra heavy rods. I paired the two conventional rods with Accurate 665 reels and loaded them with 65 pound power pro. The third is a spinning rod that I paired with a Shimano Stella 10000 and I loaded that with 80 pound power pro. I can not wait to use them this coming season.

A ex 4/0 narrow will take 450 of 80 power pro with a short 30 yd topshot This will handle a bigeye (We had a bft at 190# to the boat in 17 mins) and it is the size of a 4/0 senator way over kill for bass but won't look like it at the dock These can still be found for about 300 beans I have bunch of these and the wides A friend of mine made some clicker buttons if you go this way and want one let me know
