    what outriggers?

i am having a real hard time finding a good pair of outriggers that would work on my parker 2520. they need to be simple and offshore strong, and i really dont want to spend a ton of cash. i was looking at telescopeing but everyone says they dont hold up. i appreciate any help you all can give.

The outriggers in the photo below are 15-foot, heavy-duty Taco, telescoping, on Grand Slam bases.

They have been on the boat for over four years. A dozen offshore runs, and hundreds of miles of chop, or worse.

Always left extended. NO DAMAGE AT ALL.

What's the reason, when you hear that should never be done?

Easy, have the rigger lines taut enough when in the stowed position that the outriggers have a little bow in them. This means they are not free to flex and whip - and get damaged.

Outriggers are not cheap. As with all things used in saltwater... if you don't maintain them they will fail on you. Clean and lubricate after each trip, keep them polished and they will last for years. You don't want to pull two Bart's Extreme Breakfast teasers on your telescoping outriggers ran to the tip. Telescoping are fine if you have storage restrictions or are trailering the vessel. Otherwise just purchase the fixed type of rigger pole. Gunnel mounts are ok for the avg fisherman but can be a pain when it gets rough. Rupp Top Gun or Taco Grand Slam bases are great if you have a hardtop or T-top for them. Those two will get your line angle higher and help certain baits pull better. Forget cheap, in boating cheap does not last that long.

green - I've had the same luck as Brian with the TACO riggers. When running taunt them up a bit and the seem to be fine when running. I've got a 24ft CC so it doesn't take much to bounce these around and they've held up even on some 60 mile trips offshore. Good luck!!!

I pull tuna bars, so I went with fixed aluminum poles on top gun radials.

I have these bases on my 2530, they were installed by the previous owner and are Lee t-top bases. They are bolted right through the pilot house roof with backing plates. I believe the poles are 18' fixed and have had no problems at all with them. I even double rigged them and pulled bars of the short rigger.

Post up on classicparker.com many guys over there have installed various riggers on their boats.

I fish on a 25 parker, with the same setup as miles offshore. With where they are mounted, you can just reach out the windows and deploy them with help of a boat hook, or whatever you want to call it. Makes it easier in rougher seas to deploy them. Pulled bars off the riggers with no problem. They are double rigged, just haven't tried to pull two bars off each rigger yet. Let me know if you have any questions I can try to help you with.
