    What line for Avet LX's?

I am trying to figure out what to string up on my LX's. I plan on doing mostly king fishing with them but dont want to shy away from a Yellowfin or an occassional Wahoo.

Do the pro kingfish guys use braid or are they afraid of the lack of stretch> Should I use a top shot of mono with the braid? How long? What Lb. Test?

Thanks in advance for your generous feedback!

Im not a kingfishermen but i have my lxs spooled with 25lb mono for white marlins. Only had them one season and didnt get any wahoos on them but we have caught the occasional yft; nothing huge prlly about 40lbs and it worked fine. The difference in drag settings from 25lb line to 30 really isnt that much so it is like catching a tuna on a lighter 30.

80-85 lb braid, mono topshot............ if you want to contend tuna with it that is! Check out my thread, "What size AVET" the guys offered up a lot of great spooling insight for me.

What LB. top shot? How many yards of 80 lb. braid will fit on that reel? Is the lack of stretch an issue for Kings?

nauti, The LX says it hold about 480 yards of 65lb braid, so im sure 80 lb braid wont be much less.

Thanks, Blue. I dont think I would need to go higher than 65. It sounds like 50-65 lb braid with a 50-100 yard top-shot may be the way to go.

Thanks Guys! I love this site.

also, about the braid/kings, i would just go with a lower strike drag setting so u can hook up, that way the no-stretch braid wont prevent you from hooking up at strike. At least thats my logic, others might have some better input

that reel is great i own two of them. the reel will hold about 450 yds of 80 lb braid. I used the shimano wind on leaders 60 lbs for jiggs or you can get away with heavier.
