Whitey:
I have a fish down at Gray's in Pompano beach. I asked them if the blue marlin in the front of the building was just an eye catcher. They said it was a comercially caught blue that was 28' and 4000# caught off of Venezuela. I had a hard time believing this, but Capt. Gray doesn't seem like a guy that has anything to prove. If I was monster chasing I would either be in the South Atlantic in the winter or the North Atlantic in the summer. I think that the remoteness of Ascencion and its center in the South Atlantic make it a prime place to find giant fish roaming.
I do think that Roddy's opinion of Brazil is spot on. That area is where I think big fish are roaming. I also think they are at our lats in the summer.
In the summer we basically have one bait out for Blues. This year we pulled a spread a couple of times. Each time we had takers, but no real big fish. Biggest one was around 400#. I think that you have a good shot out of jersey in a cool patch around the warm water out over the 1000 to 1500 fthm line. I like the idea of going on just a big blue hunt. I don't know why more people don't do it. They are off Bermuda in the spring and they have to be going somewhere.
So if you are up to it this spring let me know I'm ready to go deep and pull a big spread for a few weeks looking for the big blue girl here!!
