Swords are difficult because most of the fight is vertical. They can go deep and then they have the spread out pec fins that you have to pull up through the water column. It's the same deal with thresher sharks. They go deep and have large pectoral fins.
In contrast, marlin often stay on the surface where you can run them down. Blues will do death dives and then you have the laborious process of planing them up. But if they stay on the surface, the job is much easier. Stripes, whites and sails pretty much stay near the surface, so they're easy to run down. Haven't caught a black, yet.
