    Question What Happened??

I have been following the thread about Big Eye Tune being caught in the Elephant Trunk and it really drove home a point to me.
I don't know if they were Big Eye, Bluefin, Yellowfin, Blackfin or mutant longfin It just amazes me how cynical people have become, I see it all the time in the tackle shop. A couple years ago friends of mine caught a monster 665lb mako!! Yet guys around the dock were spreading some BS about it being a long fin and therefor illegal. WHY??
Have we lost the ability to believe the spectacular? What happened to the wonder we all felt the first time we dropped a line in the water and imagined all types of crazy fish swimming by the hook and pondered which deep sea denizen would grab the bait?
In my life by the shore I have seen many marvels and heres a short list:
Grand slam off of NJ, spearfish off NJ,
Seahorse in the marina, sturgeon in the Delaware Bay,a 1229lb Blue marlin of NC, the comeback of Stripers, and oh yeah on the news the other day the caught a Giant squid!
For me fishing, especially offshore fishing is the closest I can get to being an explorer, my own connection to the early pioneers. Everytime I leave the shore I think about what new possibiltes the trip me bring.
So, each time you wet a line think about what might be down there and you might be suprised!

I couldnt agree more. There is no way to describe the beauty and aww that we see from day to day. I think so many times we take for granted that we are offered this chance to be out basically in the mid of the ocean fishing.
As far as fish that are caught and rumors that are spread about them. Thats a shame why people cant be happy for another crew to catch a fish of a life time is beyond me. All the time you here of tournament teams and how their fish came from a long liner or was caught illegally. I truely believe it falls under the category of plain ole jealousy and nothing more than that.

I think eveyone thinks they are the best and nobody can do better. If a fisherman has a good catch it seems the person they are talking to has caught more or one bigger. Its all ego. Its only fishing!!!! There is no question some fisherman are more consistant than others. I find the story more amazing that someone caught a big eye were they don't normally live. Over the years I have caught 2 blue marlin at the trunk. Everyone looks at you with 10 heads like your crazy blue marlin don't live there. The 2 I caught were there. What can I say. Just fish and be happy!!!

Well said.My best friend is starting to get into offshore fishing some this year, just the other week the porpoises were all over the place, we stopped the boat and really enjoyed watching them.It has beeen a long time since I have done that and it made me realize how excited I was when I first started fishing in the ocean and how lucky I was just to be able to go.I think we all forget how lucky we are, to be able to jump in the boat and head for the horizon.I dont care if they were bluefins, yellowfins or purplefins its stil PRETTY WORK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chuck, you are 100% right on this. People are getting more "cynical", even on this board. While we don't as much of it here, I see more of it happing here all the time, same with bashing. I figure out why people want to do or be like that but they do, damn shame... I was on another board the other day and they were talking about how bad we were bashing Ono,and we were, truth hurts don't it. I thought that I would never hear another site saying that about this site. This brings us down the level of the other sites, not the one that you and others have worked so hard to be above all the rest.
I have watched people join the site that I thought at first would be a great asset to here only to see that after they got comfortable here turn into egotistical idiots, that are eager to jump into someone's face with out thinking. These people do not get responses from me much as I am not going the feed the frenzy.

    Thanks for this post Chuck...

Very well said Chuck, I could not agree more. I have come to realize that nothing surprises me anymore. I did catch a swordfish and white marlin last weekend along the 30 fathom line. Are these fish normally here, no, but the conditons are right for them. The water temp is good and the bait is there. I think the bait is the key to pull these fish out of their "normal" haunts. I know I am one to think outside the box and will tend to pull a couple surprises out every year, you never know unless you try. These findings are by mistake the first time but after that you target these fish in these areas and next thing you know we are changing our fishing techniques in these areas to target different species. My next trip to this area will include fishing for swords, whites, and now I will throw a larger bait out to see if there is a blue marlin roaming around. What the hell a billfish slam at the 30 line, I am gonna try, nothing to lose.
