I use on some days 20oz of weight but some days its 48oz . The bait I use is whole squid and half of boston mackeral. Big baits= big fish well not all the time but most of the time.We tried the light thing but my rig out fished it 4-1 so we don't use lights anymore

John - 20 to 48 ounces? That's all? How long does it take to get down to 600 foot for the Tilies? Geez, I'd fall asleep before my weight hit bottom. :snooze:

I usually start to drop it clean up my area and get a drink to refresh myself and by that time it hits. Lock it up and start cranking all over, once it hits the bottom you can feel them hit before you even come tight .

Up there you have the Tilies a lot more concentrated but down here, once you get past the 200 foot dropoff, the bottom slopes away a lot more gradual so you have to widen your search for these critters.

For example, I found a nice "underwater sand dune" literally a couple hundred yards off a heavily fished deepdropping spot off Stuart and yet I've never seen anyone fish that spot. Including the damn commercials. Yet I nearly always get a blueliner off there every trip. And I don't rock up there either.

The spread-out bottom features down here almost require you to keep your eyes glued to the sonar while you are running from one spot to another. Many a spot I have found that way.

On my next boat I am definitley going to get a higher-powered machine and get a hi-performance bronze thru-hull transducer. I want to see my dinner 2500 feet down.
