They shouldn't be swinging at a fish in the first place.But what I've noriced about top shots that I like has nothing to do with the hook at all. I like the lightweight fiberglass handle. When you gaff a big shark,etc. It flexes withthe fish and doesn't bend like the Aftco gaffs. But the hooks on them i can do without. If you gaff a mahi,wahoo,or tuna with the smaller models...it looks like to shot it with a 12 gauge. They seem to ruin too much meat on an unperfect gaff shot. And I'm sure none of you has ever gaffed a fish in the meat by accident.
