In Bermuda the captains keep the catch, give the charter a portion, and sell the rest directly to the restaurants to offset the cost of diesel which is now around $6.60 a gallon. A taxi driver told me that gasoline is around $7.00/gallon. They have had very high fuel prices there for years, and they are used to it. Our last night in town we met the captain and one of our fishing partners in a local restaurant that got our 2nd days catch of tuna/wahoo/rainbow runner/ and grouper. The rainbow, some of the wahoo, and some tuna were turned into the best sushi I've ever had. The fish was trimmed very small, maybe one inch squares, 3/8" thick and arranged like flower petals. I felt really bad when they put that work of art in front of us and we cleaned the plate off in about a minute and a half! The grouper, runner, wahoo, and tuna were also cooked, that plate didn't last much longer. Without a doubt the runner and the wahoo were outstanding as sushi.
The bandage was on my hand, souvenir of NJ striper fishing (filleting)! The boat was a 37' Duffy and yes the Overproof fished right near us at times.
